Roll Pins (Spring Pins)

A martensitic, magnetic grade alloy used for it’s strength, durability and magnetic properties. It can be hardened. Popular in dental and surgical instruments, cutlery, pump shafts, plastic molds and dies and various hand tools.

It has similar machinability to high carbon tool steel. It has tough, stringy chip build-up. 420 will withstand only minor cold work. Radical forming operations will result in cracking.

The main component of the steel is Fe (Iron) with the addition of the elements shown in the following chart
