Lubrication - Bearings - Technical

Bearing Lubricants

The primary purpose of lubrication is to reduce friction and heat, to bear some of the load and to inhibit corrosion. Using the correct lubricant is therefore critical to overall bearing performance. See also speeds.

Most bearings are charged with a general purpose grease which caters for all but the most extreme operating conditions. Special lubricants are available for critical applications and when extreme conditions exist.

Specialised lubricants are used in applications such as Dental Handpiece Turbines, Military Applications, Aircraft Instruments, Sound Recording and QC equipment, Computer Applications to name a few.

SPB can often supply bearings with your choice of lubricant (minimum quantities may apply). In very low torque, low load, low speed applications, bearings may be supplied dry. Dry bearings have no lubricant allowing for extremely free running applications.

You can find many types of bearings in the Small Parts and Bearings Bearings Online Catalogue pages.
