Glossary - Needle Roller Bearing
A bearing using needle rollers as rolling elements. Compared to a standard roller bearing a needle roller bearing has more contact area between the rolling element and the outer raceway allowing for relatively high loads with a compact sized bearing. This higher load capacity is usually at the expense of running speed.
The typical structure consists of an inner ring, or sometimes a ground shaft, a needle cage which orients and contains the needle rollers, the needle rollers themselves, and an outer race.
