9 - Skate - Hobby Information - Small Parts
Skate Bearings - Question 9Are the "Supermarket" ABEC precision bearings really manufactured to the correct tolerances? We have to believe that they are until it is proven otherwise. Most countries have laws against false labelling, however we must ask why the skate market is suddenly flooded with inexpensive bearings marked as Abec 5 and Abec 7. Manufacturing high precision bearings is not a cheap process, although the costs can be kept lower if other quality controls are not in place. Many of these other quality controls are much more important to skating than tolerances (precision).
